Christmas and New Year with the Hill family

With my family being spread out from Florida to Illinois it is a rare occasion that we are all together. It was a treat that all of us were able to have Christmas (after Christmas) at my parents house in Illinois. We were really hoping for a little snow, but it didn't happen. Although our time was short, it was wonderful to all be together.

In true Hill fashion we made a shopping trip that Saturday morning and enjoyed hitting up Goodwill, they have a huge selection of boys clothes and I always hit the jackpot there.

That evening my Dad's church was having a Watch Night Service to ring in the new year and because we all had Buffalo plaid we decided to twinkie it up. We all sang and the girls even played the piano. Unfortunately, my sister and her family had to leave early due to sickness and did not get to participate in the service or our Christmas party that night.

In our PJ's ready for presents....

Sunday morning enjoying family time at church

my beautiful girls!

Since my brother's family was so close to our house they decided to spend a few days with us in Kansas City. With it being such a long trip from Florida, they probably will not be able to visit much. I was thrilled with the plan because it meant more time with my family....and then the kids got the biggest surprise, SNOW

This was a blessing to me, they entertained Arlee for hours while I stayed nice and warm...Yay. And then we all had hot chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate. It was a perfect evening.

Christmas at Home (in Kansas City)

The older Arlee gets, the more enjoyable the Christmas holidays become. He is really getting into the spirit of it and his enthusiasm is very contagious. He loved helping me decortate the Christmas village and of course he enjoyed his Christmas tree...definitely one of the best things I made for him a few years back

With such a busy schedule going  out of town with family, we did not get to participate in many of the local events. But we did want to make sure he was able to visit with Santa and get his picture made.

We were thrilled when our Pastor's wife shared that she would be Mrs Clause for one of the local outlet malls and invited us to visit them on their PJ's with Santa night.

Arlee was super excited to find out he would get to see Santa and have milk and cookies with him. The whole event was first class. The children met in the lobby area around a fireplace where Mrs Clause read them a story. The kiddos were given milk and cookies and then they each received a copy of the book she
read.

                                                                   Waiting for Santa
                                                             Our sweet preacher's wife

Then the moment came and the Jolly Old Man came out and greeted all the kids. They sang songs and then they each had the opportunity to line up and spend time in Santa's lap for pictures. Unfortunately, Arlee fell out of an igloo while waiting and had no desire to sit in Santa's lap or take a picture. He did brave up enough to tell Mr. Clause what he wanted to Christmas, which sounded something like this, "Choo-choo choes", "Minney Mask", Thomas, "Choo-Choo Choes" and Nemo game. Which interpreted is Paw Patrol, P.J. Mask, Thomas the train, Paw Patrol again and a Nemo movie and game for his Leap Frog game. I was so proud he found his nerve to talk to St. Nick.

This was after his little accident and Lee read to him to calm him down....what a sweet Daddy!!

This was the closest he would get to Santa, but at least it's something!

So, with Christmas Eve on hand it hit me that I had not taken any Christmas pics of Arlee and decided a quick photo shoot in his pj's was a must. I was excited on how well these last minute pictures turned out and the story that goes with it is priceless.

It a ll starts off with him sitting by the tree refusing to smile, when all of a sudden I get a cute little smirk from him and I see him wiggling and then he looks down at a the big wet spot he created on my nice burlap tree skirt!!!   Yep, he peed right on my skirt...Oh, the memories! So we changed his PJ's and snapped a sweet picture of him looking a Christmas books. I won't overload you on all hundred of them...lol

Then of course, cookies and his list and off to bed so Daddy can get busy putting  his train set together...I think this has become another tradition!!

                                                                Daddy working hard...

Before we knew it, it was Christmas morning and Santa had come and gone, leaving behind all kind of goodies for Arlee. But before he was able to tear into his gifts, we read about the real "Reason for the Season" in Luke 2

trying to snap a quick family photo.....

He loved both of his train sets

I was pretty excited about this Christmas village Thomas the Train, I found it at Bargain Hunt for $25. It was normally retails for over $100!!!....score!

He enjoyed playing with all of his new treasures, but  all too quickly it was time to get ready for church and celebrate the birth of our Savior and remember the true meaning of Christmas. It's not in the ribbons or bows, the gifts or the bags, it's so much more than all of that.... It was a beautiful Christmas morning and I love celebrating and making memories with my little family!

Christmas with the Gates

We were so blessed to be able to take a week off and spend time back in Mississippi with our family. We had not been home since the move so it was extra exciting.

We left out Friday evening when Lee got off work and head out on our long 9 hour drive. However, we did not expect ICE to be part of our journey, so that 9 hours soon turned into 11. We made it to Arkansas around 2am and decided to get a hotel and make the rest of the trip in the morning.

Once we got into MS we headed over to his brother's house and dropped off the dogs and unloaded the car. We made it just in time to head over to Lee's cousin's house for the Christmas party. It was so good to see everyone. This year there was a new baby and you know how new babies make everything so special.

We decided that we would buy for the kiddos and make it fun for them. And let me tell you with 3 kids close to the same age, it was interesting. They fought over all the presents and toys. OH BOY!

                  Jackson                                                                                                    Arlee

                       Lilly                                                                                                      Addison

                                                                   Nana's little blessings

The Family!

After a great time with the family, we had another Christmas party later that evening... Mamma Faye's Christmas (this is my husband's grandmother) We always do and ornament exchange and it's always fun!

Then on Sunday we were able to go to our home church and spend time with our church family. I was thrilled to see my gals and have some girlfriend time....I'm kinda lacking in that department these days...lol

One of our favorite traditions is going to Cotton Plant. It is simply amazing! It is known as Mississippi's Hidden treasure. Tucked away in the middle of no-where is one of the largest inflatable Christmas displays. The lights and atmosphere is simply amazing. It's by far one of my favorite traditions.

I love this picture of Arlee, Lilly and Jackson. The excitement of Christmas gleaming in their little eyes.

We had an amazing week packed with family, friends, fun and lots of food. But 'like always the week went by super fast and we were on our way back home to celebrate Christmas Eve and let's be honest wrap a ton of presents....
